Just wonderful!!! July 11, 2000 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I read this book and proved extremely helpful. I am the owner of a chow chow and in her first and second show she was handled by a proffesional handler. The problem is that Serena did not like to be handled by someone that she is not familiar with, so I decided to go as a Owner handler. The first time was dissaster. I bougth this book from you and I read all the chapters. On June 9 2000, I handled Serena using the advice and tips estated in this book. Serena was awarded Best of Breed and received her first point toward her salvadorean championship and her first point toward the latin american championship. We made all our way through the show and by the first time (this is my second chow chow)one of my dogs reached the Best in Show judging. We did not win but we were very close. I am sure that next time I will not forget the tips of Ms. Coile. All these achievements were possible to this book. Thanks a lot.
Excellent Intro to Showing July 8, 2000 32 out of 32 found this review helpful
I've read just about every book on showing, and this is the best introduction to the world of dog shows I've seen. I wish more exhibitors shared Caroline Coile's wonderful attitude about showing dogs. She covers everything from finding and raising that show quality puppy, basic stacking and gaiting (with helpful color photographs), entering shows and what to do when you get there, and problem solving techniques, to good sportsmanship and suggestions on how to avoid common pitfalls. And she does it all with a great sense of humor -- an important quality to have when you're showing dogs.

A great book to learn the basics of the show ring. If you are new to this sport this book will give you the information you need to get started and feel comfortable around the veterans of the show world.
Owner-Handlers and those just beginning in this super sport! January 6, 2000 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I have read several dog showing books and this one is the best for no nonsense, get to the point teaching about the dog show world. The author is a wonderful teacher and seems to be talking to you as if you are a friend of hers. You WILL learn the lingo of showing and feel comfortable in the ring once you have read and followed her advice. A must read for all new to showing!

As owner handler Ms Coile's book has been instrumental in allowing me to be competitive in a short time against old hands competing in Italy where I live. I heartily endorse this book.
