Excellent book March 1, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am not into poetry and quipful writing, but this book certainly touches your heart, especially if you have lost a fur baby that you loved. The only drawback is one that the author cannot help, and that is that when you read the book, your grief is compounded by the emotional writings/poetry. On one hand it lifted me up, but on the other it did little to help my grief. I do recommend it to everyone, but I recommend you wait until your personal pain has subsided a bit. Good work.
Awesome Book February 6, 2002 I have been devasted by the loss of my dog, Angela, and this book has been tremendously helpful as I grieve. Because of the depth of feeling that the poetry and stories in the book convey, I felt that my own feelings were validated and I felt comforted in knowing that other people (including but not limited to well-known authors like Eugene O'Neil and Rudyard Kipling) were as attached to their dogs as myself--so attached that they felt the need to put their sorrow into words. The first time I read the book I could not stop crying since some of the words perfectly described my feelings of loss--and I still cry when I read the book! I also felt almost a sense of optimism in the midst of my extreme sorrow because many of writers express a belief or hope that they will be reunited with their dogs upon their own deaths. Two stories are particularly moving: The Rainbow Bridge and The Fourth Day. The photographs in this book are also awsome. The editor really did an incredible job. This book should be at the very top of your list if you are trying to deal with the death of your beloved dog. (In memory of Angela)
Cry and smile at the same time March 26, 2001 I've been searching for a particular poem for a long time. ("In Memoriam", by Henry Willett). A reviewer referred to this poem and led me to the book that contained it. Every page is a gem.
You are not alone February 6, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
What a wonderful book! A well-chosen selection of tributes and memorials spanning many years, many dogs, and many people. Reading these words, you are assured that you are not alone in your grief...so many others have loved their dogs deeply and felt the pain at their loss. There are some absolutely beautifully written poems in this book. I bought this book last year after I had to put my dog Sparky to sleep. He was 16 years old and sick, but that didn't make it any easier to lose him. I bought many books on pet loss, and this one has been my favorite so far. I would highly recommend it to anyone going through this themselves; it would also make a heartfelt gift for someone you know who is dealing with the loss of their furchild.

As a collector of animal stories, poems, poetry, I have added this wonderful book to my personal collection. The photos and memorials are heart-warming. I especially enjoy this book because I can pull it off my shelf and re-read those favorite stories that relate to my own life with my canine companions. The photos will surely put a big smile on your face and bring a tear to your eye....it's a winner!!
