Are you people serious? July 2, 2008 You know, demeaning and demoralizing men as dogs really isn't helping make the case for gender equality. In case you are too dense or bitter to realize it, this author is encouraging the same mentality as the male chauvinist types who expect their women to be subservient and submissive. I think people who actually buy into this type of excrement need to take a good, hard look at why they feel so horrible about themselves, and what their real purpose in life is.
As A woman I am greatly offended by the ideas in this book June 3, 2008 I read this book after reading an article in News week discussing the authors views on behavior modification for men. I do not write reviews, but I was very disappointed and upset while reading the damaging instructions that are given in this text. If you value yourself and the men in your life you will not perpetuate or endorse the outrageous thinking and behavior this book employed. I am ashamed of myself for purchasing the book. I thought surely it would be written in fun and not as a manual to alter a man's character. It should not need to be said, but I feel it needs to be, women should treat men with respect and value who they are and not change them. Woman who feel justified in manipulating men to act a certain way are controlling and devalue the relationships between men and woman. The instructions detailed in this text are irresponsible and demeaning to both genders. A man should be loved and celebrated for who he is and not be forced to change. If a woman is not happy with a man than she needs to leave the relationship and work on making herself happy. The only person any individual can change is themselves. It takes a lifetime to create yourself and work on behaviors, beliefs, and choices that need to be adjusted and revised to make yourself happy and healthy. Each person should focus on the work they need to do on themselves to be a better person instead of focusing on changing others. It is very narcissistic for any person to try to impose their will on another. No one needs to compromise who they are to satisfy anyone else. Everyone has the right to be who they are and choose to live the life they want that makes them happy. Encouraging women to think that men live for the sole purpose to serve their wives or girlfriends and must bend to a woman's will is irresponsible and fails to tell the truth about the value of men and what they contribute to meaningful relationships. The world and everyone living in it will be much better served when we collectively work on ourselves and stop trying to change others and accept everyone for who they are.
Funny! But sad to say true! December 2, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I must admit I laughed while reading this book. Sad to say, there are a lot of truths in this book. If this book offends any man, then change your ways. Don't behave as if you need a trainer. My biggest disappointment is that this book is so small. I didn't read the size of book under descriptions. I finished reading it in 5 minutes.
Humorous primer or ? January 28, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
So far, I've bought three copies of this book and given two to women friends. Between the writing and the elegant drawings of long-legged beauties and men with tails, one could see this as a tongue in cheek guide to female domination. For example: "From day one, you must seize the leadership role. Remain tough...You must refuse to pet or play with a disobedient dog, resisting the lure of his puppy dog eyes. He'll get the hint who's boss." "Dogs are known for begging and panting over things they're not allowed to have...Familiarize your dog with the following equation: Forbidden Temptation = Intense Emotional Pain." "The most effective method for making a dog do what you want is still the old-fashioned reward system. First, find out what you dog's favorite treats are. Then promise him one of those treats if he does what he's told. Make sure he begs a lot for it first. Note: The extra begging won't help train him any better, but it's fun to watch." I'm a guy who leaves paw prints when he walks, so I enjoyed Ms. Salmansohn's take on male-female relationships. Women hold certain advantages, and this book really plays on them. While this book can certainly be seen as humorous, it also has an unmistakably kinky flavor. Like a good fairy tale, it contains a kernel of truth about life and female-male relationships.
cracked me up - and I am a guy! September 29, 2005 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Sex in The city humor -- but oddly kinda true. I always kid with girlfriend that guys are dogs -- including me -- so she showed me this book! I definitely got a big laugh from it. Some of it is true about both men and women. The author discusses flight and chase behavior -- when your dog is runing away you dont chase after him because that only makes him run away faster. You just act like youre having fun without him -- and the dog just wants to be where the fun is - so he will return. Good counsel for both sexes.
