Scientific understanding of pet behavior! May 2, 2003 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
i loved this book! It is so different from the 'popular science' love your doggie books. It takes the scientific approach and lists research into all things related to canines. It was absolutely fascinating and very informative. If you really want to learn about how your dog thinks and why then here is the book for you. It is well written, clear and quite entertaining.
Good book, and a little more "scientific" in expression. June 26, 2002 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
A lot of dog behavior books are pretty easy to understand and are digestible by your average reader. This book is just as understandable but is at a more detailed level. To lessen the undesirable behaviors of dogs, the author breaks down the possible reasons for the behaviors and shows the reader how to train the dog to reduce the negative behaviors in a positive, non-violent, yet not overly sensitive way. Very good reader for those really interested in canine behavior.
The Dogs Mind Review April 10, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I rescue and rehabilitate English and Neapolitan Mastiffs and this book has made a HUGE difference in the way I work with these 150-200 pound animals. I now understand why they do some of the things that they do and can taylor a training program for each dog according to their personality.
A Must For All Dog Lovers July 4, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is extremely well-written and informative. It is an easy read for dog professionals and even for a lay-person. Extremely interesting and easy to understand. It covers the many reasons for why dog's behave the way they do, including, their evolution and neonatal development. If you want to understand your dog, this is the book to get.
Truly The Best Dog Book March 19, 2001 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
I have owned this book for over three years now and still think it is the best dog training/understanding book that I have ever seen. As a trainer of shelter animals and owner of 4 dogs I have seen almost every kind of "bad dog". Before getting this book I trained using the "commercially" prescribed techniques without a true understanding of the motivation behind the dog's behavior. After reading this book, I was able to develop my own methods tailored to each dog and have had great success. I would love to see every dog owner in the U.S. have a copy of this book as it would prevent a lot of animal abuse and neglect currently present here.
