I think if Cesar Milan ran this country, we would all be better off. This book, of course, is first-rate. We love it. Cesar is so anecdotal - and he uses techniques that work.

Even though partialy biographical, this book gives a thorough overview on Cesar's methods and basics. Groundwork!
A MUST FOR DOG OWNERS March 10, 2008
When I got a terrier mix from the local shelter I was delighted, entertained, frustrated, and completely perplexed. She's the smartest dog I've ever had, behaved admirably "in the ring" but was completely incorrigible at home or off leash. However, there was hope! I hadn't even finished this book before I noticed changes in her behavior - I guess she just needed a pack leader, but first I had to be guided, inspired, and trained. Thanks, Cesar, from Halley and me. I LOVE this little dog and you helped us learn how to live together!

Cesar uses a fundamental technique commonly known as "flooding". Flooding an animal basically means forcing it to do a particular behavior. In my experience this should be used as a last resort and only in certain circumstances. In some of Millan's programs he can be seen ignoring obvious `cut off signals" from the animals. Cut off signals in dog behavior are well documented and distinct. Any experienced behaviorist will unequivocally give a recommendation not to continue an interaction with an animal displaying multiple cut off signals. The results of ignoring this advice can result in aggressive reactions. A well known Vegas showman was recently nearly mortally wounded by a Tiger because he ignored cut off signals. Sound advice is to do thorough research into the latest positive reinforcement techniques that are currently becoming main stream. Rewarding your dog for doing the right thing will give you the closest bond with you animal friend. Careless adherence to Cesar Millan's techniques might get you a trip to the E.R.
