Sensible Training Method September 11, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The techniques in this book use mother-child interactions prior to weening as the ground work for post-weening work. Very practical and compassionate use of corrections and praise. Hard cover so it is a little expensive, but it reads well and will make a lot a sense to help you work with your pet. Highly recommended. Also, it's on the AKC Recommended Reading list.
YES, SHE DOES INDEED! August 29, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Use this informative book on dog training. I think it would also be useful on training, (teaching children!). Think how and where the animal comes from. Positive reinforcement and pack order gives your pet confidence and increases their desire to please. A must read for new and also seasoned pet owners.
The best training book out there July 18, 2005 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I first was recommended this book over 10 years ago when I got my first puppy. I followed it closely and implemented all of the techniques and I have to admit, it helped me produce a truly wonderful, obedient dog and companion. I have re-read this book each time I get another dog and the advice and techiques are second to none. If you are looking for a great book on how to train a dog - this is it.
Wonder Dog Potential June 13, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was recommended to me in 1998 when we adopted a shelter dog. I used this book as a "bible" for training our new canine friend and honestly - it was the best thing I have ever done. We have friends who have never had any kind of pet that say if they could have a dog like ours they would adopt one in a minute.
I have recommended this book since 1998 to a dozen or so friends with new dogs and they ALL have taken the time to call or write or email me with their thanks for turning them on to such a useful tool to help them and their dog adjust to each other.
It's a great approach to being a sensitive, respectful dog owner and getting the best out of your dog as well.
Veterinarian-recommended October 29, 2004 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'm a veterinarian and I recommend this book to all of my clients who have or are considering getting a new puppy/dog. I have also used the book to train 2 of my own dogs, one Shih tzu and one Dalmatian.
The book is straight forward and easy to understand. Topics are presented in an orderly fashion making it easy to go back and reference specific sections.
Overall, this is the best basic puppy/dog training book I have ever come across. I've even requested that our local bookstore keep it in stock.
