The BEST Book I've Read Yet! September 28, 2004 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic book for the owner-handler competing against the professionals! It helps out the novice as well by explaining dog shows. However, I've been in dog shows since I was young and needed a book for the next level. This was perfect! There were so many hints, tips and techniques that I had never heard of. There were hints on training your dog, using your dog's best assets, handler techiniques etc. I couldn't put the book down! This book needs to be in every dog showers library.
Eminently readable, enjoyable introduction to showing dogs December 28, 2003 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Though I'm not likely to become a breeder or exhibitor, I've attended a half-dozen shows in the past six months in order to follow a particular breed. More puzzled than enlightened, I soon found that I needed to find out what all this activity was about. This book has answered many of my questions in a serious-minded yet easy-to-read style, and it is a keeper for my library - just in case I get bit by the show bug. There are certain tricks of the trade that the beginner should watch out for, as in any pursuit, as well as accepted procedures and proper etiquette, which too many beginners learn only by trial and error. An eye-opener of a book, and just plain fun for anyone who loves dogs.
This book is a gem! August 17, 2003 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Ms. Coile does a wonderful job of explaining all the important elements in showing a dog. It isn't the first book I've read on the subject but it is the best. It is clear and comprehensive and provides wonderful illustrations--finally, a visual of the various patterns (down & back, the L, the triange!) and an explanation of "pacing" versus "trotting." A wealth of information at small cost! Our bouvier is on his way...
The Best Handling Guide Ever August 3, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a great book! It has really helped me. I am a Junior Handler in shows, but I don't yet have a dog, so I show other peoples dogs. I really enjoyed reading this book. It has so many helpful tips and pointers. I read it before I go to bed, and I also practice my ring procedures with a stuffed dog. This book has done so much for me. So, if you are new to dog shows, like I am, this is definately the book for you. I would recomend this to newcomers, like myself. After reading this, I attended my 5th show. I came in first and that was all I needed to make it to the Junior Nationals, where I placed first. Read this book. If it can help me, it can help you too!
