Great Variety of Dogs July 14, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an excellent book that touches on a huge variety of breeds. While some books show "recognized" breeds, this book shows breeds in the making such as the Labradoodle, and obscure, yet excellent breeds such as the Danish/Sweedish Farm Dog. I love the informatin and the pictures and it is a great reference book for the family and dog enthusiasts alike.
Gift to my Grand Daughter June 26, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very impressed by the coverage of the different types of dogs and their particular traits; the pictures are also large and beautifully rendered.
Great for begining dog owners / help choosing a dog June 17, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this book for a couple of years now, and I have to say that I am ultimatly impressed by the overall appearance and content of the book. While the book doesn't go into great detail about any of the dogs, it does provide you with the basics of each breed, and so this could be a useful resource if you are starting to look at dogs and want to know a bit about the breed until you pick out your favorites. Then it would be time to find a book specifically about that breed. The book also gives some general information on the anatomy and systems of the dog, basic care and info on equiptment. This is not a book for the person who has had dogs for years, but rather for a beginner, opr someone who needs help picking a dog.
One more great title from DK ! Beaultifully illustrated ! May 27, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this book mainly because I own a matese female dog named Minnie. She's almost 2 years old and is a great companion at home. I am also very curious to learn more and more about dogs: their history, breeds, cares, behavior etc. This encyclopedia by DK suits fine what I was looking for. Although it has not detailed information it is full of beautiful pictures and more than five houndred different dog types. It will make a great "coffe-table book" on my place !!
