A Treasure April 7, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Tao of Pug is a wonderful book. I had never noticed the similarity between pug behavior and Taoism before. Taoists believe that people are good by nature, and that one should be kind to others simply because such treatment will probably be reciprocated. Pugs are naturally friendly and trusting. Taoism is focused on nature. Pugs happen to be very fascinated with nature (mostly by the parts of nature that are edible). Taoists seek answers to life's problems through inner meditation and outer observation. Have you ever seen the quizical look of a pug? This is a fun approach to both Tao and the Pug!
A fun book, and a good gift March 31, 2005 This book is beautiful quality, and has fantastic photographs that should appeal not only to pug-lovers, but also lovers of a good photograph and a good wit. You don't have to be a pug-lover to love this book. The sayings tie into the photographs in a way that will make you smile. Definitely a wonderful gift for either an animal lover -- or perhaps that "deep" person on your list who needs to lighten up just a bit! :-)
The Best, most original Pug story/photogpraphy ever March 30, 2005 Nancy Levine's original approach to Wilson's experience as a Pug is unique, creative and filled with talent. There isn't another book like it, except per chance, Nancy Levine's follow-on story, Homer for the Holidays. I especially like that she approached the story in black and white. Sort of the way Wilson must see the world - black, white, yin, yang. Wilson is also one of the few pugs portrayed in print who truly resembles what a pug should look like! Kudos to Nancy and Wilson.
Hilarious and Adorable! March 29, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I LOVED "The Tao of Pug" by Wilson the Pug! One of the best Pug books I've found. Who knew you could learn so much from a Pug?!? Great photography... how does Nancy Levine get Wilson the Pug to pose like that!?! You can't help but smile when holding this book! Highly recommended!
Wry, whimsical photo story March 29, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Unlike many books of this type, The Tao of Pug is not too cute, but dry, wry and amusing. Levine captures the alien quality of this odd breed in her photos and has a light hand with the text. A delightful read for adults and kids and a nice gift.
