Great, Fun, Interesting read August 22, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I recieved this book for a birthday present and it was the best present I got this year. It took me on a journey that I never expected and I came away with a new appreciation for my dogs. Many times I laughed out loud while reading, I learned many, many intersesting new things and ideas and came away feeling enriched for time I spent with Merle and Ted. I will definitley be buying it for friends of mine.P.S. I got my second dog the same day I recieved the book.
Wonderful, moving book with great insights into a dog's mind August 19, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this book as a gift and thought, oh it will be another Marley & Me (note: Marley is a book that I also enjoyed. It is a funnier, more light-hearted read compared to the deeper, more insightful Merle book). I had no idea that Merle's Door would be so touching. It really did open up a door into the minds of dogs - or at least into the mind of one special canine, Merle. It's made me more respectful of my own dog, pondering more about my dog's wants and needs. The connection between Ted and Merle is amazing - a relationship of true equals and one based on freedom, respect and love. Grieving at the end, I also shed tears for my previously beloved rescue mutt who passes all to quickly. Thank you, Ted, for sharing your special bond with us!
Amazing dog, poor story telling. August 18, 2007 4 out of 25 found this review helpful
I love animals and was draw to this book by all the great reviews, but what a disappointment. I read the 1st 2 chapters thinking, ok it will pick up - he is just setting the stage, half way through the 3rd chapter, I began to realize this was his writing style. Boring. He is just describing action, and throwing in facts on wolfs, like a high school student would write a book report. Obviously this is an amazing dog story, just couldn't finish the book.
Heartwarming book! August 18, 2007 8 out of 12 found this review helpful

Man and Dog August 16, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Ted Kerasote tells a great story that is as old as time. Having rescued my two dogs, it really hit home.
The animal psychology sections were great and increased my knowledge of dog behaviour.
It has made me rethink the raising of my next canine partner.
