Product Description Trained behavior patterns, popularly known as "tricks"are fun for canines and their masters. This book shows dog owners how to train an animal to perform both simple and more complicated tricks. The authors begin with four basic commands--sit, down, stand, and stay--that all dogs should know and obey. From there they progress to behaviors such as wave, sit up, bow, jump through a hoop, and weave through legs. Instructions for each of the book's 25 tricks are presented with tips to help owners work through problems, and suggestions for putting the animal's training to effective use--just for fun, in competitive shows, for roles in films, and many other situations. The dog-and-master team that progresses all the way through this volume's advanced exercises will be capable of public performance! Not every dog owner will want to go that far, but all dog owners can profit from the know-how that they'll find in these pages. 150 instructive how-to color photos, and a wealth of practical tips will make training easier for both master and pet. If you like wasting time then its a good buy July 18, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It has so few tricks, I mean, 25?! Any other training book comes with so much more for around the same price! The Idiot's guide to Dog tricks has much more interesting, easy to learn tricks. My Smart Puppy is a great read too.
Clear and Concise May 7, 2006 I really enjoy using this book to train my dog. He already knows the basic commands including shake, spin, and roll over. The format of this book is clear and concise and the illustrations/pictures are excellent guides to training your dog the new trick. Although most of the tricks are quite rudimentary and you will find them taught in most other books, I just like the crisp editing of this particular one.
Excellant for children July 10, 2001 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my 8 yr. old son to help him with his birthday present, his 1st puppy!! The book is wonderfully illustrated with very simple instructions. I would recommend this book for anyone at any age.
Well put, good advice April 18, 2001 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
If you are considering buying this book do it! The tricks are easy to teach and the problem section on each one is very helpful. It even give some of the more traditional hand signals to teach your dog. It also explain when and how to cue and reward the dog. Downside, food motivation only but if you are a good trainer you may find other motivators that'll work with your dog. Excellent pics. Recomended for all those wanting to train/play with their dogs and show-off with their friends.
