Well Dog Book August 23, 2007 We own a copy of this book from the 1970's. We bought an updated version because we loved it soooo much and passed a copy on to our daughter. It is a classic!
Good Advice February 13, 2007 As a dog owner, I have referred to this book many times over the years. My nephew is getting his first dog so I gave my copy to him and immediately had to purchase a new one for myself. Dr. Mcginnis gives good advice in a simle direct manner. It is a good adjunct to your own veterinarian.
Real Substance May 13, 2001 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Looking for a reliable and helpful reference in caring for my pets, I have looked at and rejected many, many books published for the general public on dog and cat care. Most of them are so general in approach as to be next to useless.Dr. McGinnis' "Well Dog Book" and "Well Cat Book" are just fabulous. Every line contains meaty, solid, specific information that lets us do our best for our loving, trusting animals. Dr. McGinnis demonstrates respect not only for animals but for their guardians, too. I have bought many copies of both books and given them to friends, family, and animal shelters. Now I see these books are out of print... but there is every reason to issue a new printing. If you can find a copy anywhere at almost any price, it's worth it!!
Using as a textbook in animal health introductory class February 4, 1999 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just an interesting note about this book. I am ordering it for my son who is taking an introductory animal health technology class at the local junior college. It's the required text!
An excellent layperson's dog health handbook. November 29, 1998 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have had this book for several years and have used it many times. McGinnis is well-versed in dog health care and her style makes the subject easy to understand. The book is helpful for dog owners whose pets are at any stage of life. It helps owners diagnose a problem, and tells if the dog needs to immediately be seen by a vet or if it can wait for a short time and if so, what the owner can do in the interim to help their pet. The author encourages dog owners to work with their vet for the benefit of the dog. It is obvious that McGinnis loves dogs and wants to help owners and their dogs, and I am very glad that I found this book when it was first published.
