Product Description
Definitive how-to reference for grooming 170 dog breeds. When it comes to dog grooming, one size clearly does not fit all. No other animal species is as diverse as the dog. The wide range of breeds includes all sizes, looks, temperaments and, most critically to grooming, coat types. Each breed presents its own unique challenge for a finished grooming effect. Ultimate Dog Grooming reveals the secrets of top dog groomers. The first section covers caring for and grooming the pet dog: how to keep coats healthy; tips for routine care; and advice for choosing a groomer. The second section covers grooming as a profession: advice for starting a grooming business; choosing and buying equipment; the grooming process; detecting coat and skin disorders; and instructions for handling problems that can commonly arise. The third section covers specific information for individual breeds. Each chapter is dedicated to a coat type, with step-by-step instructions for grooming each breed from start to finish. Insider tips for preparing a dog for show are also included. More that 500 color photographs and line drawings throughout show exactly what to do. Ultimate Dog Grooming is the ideal reference for understanding and learning how to clip, strip or blow-dry a dog. (20040515)

More like grooming the ultimate show dog November 15, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is not a complete guide to 170 dog breeds.
This book does an OK job of covering the health aspects of grooming. I wouldn't say that it does a better of job of any of your standard "All about dogs" book.
This book is more of a guide on how to groom a dog for show. If your dog is of a breed where the dog is groomed similarly for show as it would be groomed as a pet, this is a great book. If your dog is of a breed where a show worthy grooming is the complete opposite of a functional pet grooming, like maltese, yorkie, or any of the long haired breeds, this book will be useless. Unless you love looking at cute adorable doggies.
Grooming Styles May 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Focuses exclusively on grooming - which is good. Covers wide range of breeds - also good. Wish there are more grooming styles featured for the various breeds especially long-haired ones. Only poodles were featured in a number of grooming styles.
Great for would be groomers May 13, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I found this book to be full of helpful information with clear instructions and explanations. The pictures are excellent. After reading this anyone would feel comfortable approaching any type of coat. It would be perfect to have in front of you in the salon and it lists every item needed for each design. It goes into great detail of the more tricky styles, as well as combatting any problems. All the info is here. Well worth the purchase.I see myself keeping this one for many, many years to come.
Ultimate Dog Grooming March 30, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really like this book. I found it to be very informative with lovely pictures, it does'nt get to technical and has clear instructions on how to cut the coats of the dogs. For someone who is fairly new to the industry I certainly found this book very useful, I think you will too.
Great for self groomers August 9, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book will be invaluable now as I am going to groom my dog myself. The instructions are easily understood.
