Product Description Owners who enjoy the company of this lively, alert little animal must also be willing to spend many hours combing and grooming the Shih Tzu's long, thick coat. Titles in this growing series are written especially for owners who have just acquired a pedigreed pup, as well as for prospective owners trying to decide on which breed to choose. Each book gives an in-depth presentation of the special needs and traits of a specific dog breed. Which are best with kids? Which make good working farm dogs? Which are good hunters? Is the breed ideal for an owner who merely wants a companionable house pet? Detailed understanding of the title breed's daily needs, special abilities, physical and personality traits, susceptibility to health problems, and the steps owners should take to ensure a happy relationship with dogs of all breeds. These hardcover and dust-jacketed volumes are filled with unusually attractive full-color photos and interesting sidebar features.

Very informative October 13, 2008 I found this book to be very informative on how to take care of and train a Shih Tzu. It covers training tips that would seem very typical of all breeds but also mentioned certain Shih Tzu characteristics that would also be helpful in training a Shih Tzu in particular. The book takes you from each stage of the dog's life: from the time the puppy comes home to his/her final adult stages. The only thing that would have been more helpful would have been a chapter on the puppy's early life with the mother. Although this doesn't apply to my situation, I was kind of curious on how the interaction between mother dog and puppy affect how the puppy turns out when he/she leaves to go to a new home. Overall, it's a very informative and helpful book on Shih Tzus.

learning about a ShihTzu February 13, 2007 This book was somewhat helpful. It was interesting to know about the personality of this breed. But I have a lot of unanswered questions now that I have had the puppy for two weeks.
Living with a Shih Tzu, your dog will love it January 12, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The book is a great manual for Shih Tzu owners. From day one it was helpful for us to understand how to handle our puppy. She is now 8 weeks old and is healthy, active, curious, mischievous and sometimes seems to have read the book before we did. The author perfectly describes the usual behavior of this breed and, best of all, she provides useful hints and instructions on how to deal with specific situations and problems such as feeding, discipline and playtime. We recommend the book with enthusiasm.
