Product Description A good bit fits your horse's mouth and facititates a productive "riding dialogue" between you and your horse. But there are so many types and styles of bits available that making a selection can be a daunting task, particularly if you don't know what to look for. Jessica Jahiel demystifies the bit-selection process by emphasizing that the best bit is the mildest one suitable for the horse and the job. She then discusses conformation of the horse's head and mouth, how a bit works, bit types and materials, quality, price, and accessories. She explains how to position a bit in a horse's mouth and the best way to handle the bit when riding. With proper bit selection and the "good hands" that come with experience, you will soon find that communication with your horse-and, thus your ride-is vastly improved.

Choosing the Right Bit for Your Horse January 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great book. Was not exactly what I was looking for but, that was not an error on the sellers part.
Perhaps appropriate for beginning riders March 27, 2006 This is a very basic introduction to bits and their function. The book never adequately addresses the subject and comes far short of the title. I believe that all except the most novice of horse enthusiasts will already be familiar with the vast majority of the material presented.
If you have absolutely no knowledge of the subject and you're looking for a very brief overview, this is the book for you.
"The Complete Book of Bits and Bitting" provides a much more thorough coverage of the subject although it is perhaps a bit too thorough for the novice rider.
a little bit about bits February 27, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
